About Rep. Stacy Erwin Oakes
Representative Stacy Erwin Oakes is serving her second term representing the people of the 95th House District, which includes the cities of Saginaw and Zilwaukee and Bridgeport, Buena Vista, Carrollton, James, Kochville, Spaulding and Zilwaukee townships in Saginaw County. She is a Saginaw resident and a proud graduate of Saginaw public schools.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University and earned her teaching certification while working as a Corrections Officer at the Saginaw Correctional Facility. She then taught in Saginaw public schools and coached basketball there.
Representative Oakes went on to earn her law degree from Michigan State University Law School while working for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. While at MSU, she was an instructor for the Rental Housing Clinic.
After working as a policy analyst at the House of Representatives, she became a state Assistant Attorney General, prosecuting and defending cases statewide. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Saginaw Valley State University.
Representative Oakes and her husband, Michael, have two children, Michael II and Kingston. They worship at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
