Stone Joins Local Students for Robotics Tournament
WARREN — State Rep. Lori Stone (D-Warren) joined local Michigan students at Macomb Community College over the weekend for the FIRST in Michigan FTC State Championship. FIRST, which stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” seeks to provide fast-paced, hands-on experience for elementary and high school students interested in engaging with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“Experiences like this put Michigan’s students in the perfect position to become leaders in our 21st century economy,” said Stone, who was a featured speaker during the competition. “It’s no secret that careers in science, technology and engineering will be the foundation of Michigan’s success going forward, and I’m proud to be part of all efforts to foster curiosity and creativity in our children as often as possible.”
Stone, a lifelong educator, has made it her top priority to make Michigan students more competitive in the rapidly changing job market.
“This event could not have been a success without the dedication and efforts of people like you,” said event coordinator Mary Rustoni of Stone’s support for the FIRST in Michigan competition, which draws in thousands of students and attendees from across the state each year.
